Graphic Rendition of Survey Data

Wrote a program that converted river dredging survey data into computer graphics so engineers could visualize areas requiring dredging. For the Army Corps of Engineers.

Homologous Sequence Matching

Wrote a program that ran amino acid sequences obtained from electrophoresis of protein samples against a database of known protein samples and their structures. This seeded the X-ray crystallography work. For Dr. Arnone's research lab at the University of Iowa.

Cycle Simulation of Part of New Main-frame

Participated in coding a new mainframe cycle simulator using the proprietary language PLS. For IBM Los Gatos California.
Technician

Computer Repair

Performed maintenance for an installation with a PDP11 and PDP8.

Audio Equipment Repair

I repaired audio equipment for our startup with Dave Weldon, for Boom Audio, and for a local shop.

Assembly Line Technician

A local company founded by one of the inventors of the Polaroid camera produced remote controlled presentation equipment. I was part of a two person team who repaired rejects from the assembly line. For Mast Keystone. My first official job. I had to have a signed letter from my parents to take it, lol.
Equipment Builds

Prototype SCSI Controller

Designed by Don Westbrook. I built a prototype SCSI disk controller on perfboard using wire-wrap, the specified Z80 controller and SSI logic chips. For Bausch & Lomb Interactive Graphics Division.

Wafer Continuity Checker

Designed, built the prototype, prepared documentation in IBM format, and put out for production bid, a disk head wafer continuity test instrument. Design used SSI electronics and mechanism for holding pogo pins. For IBM San Jose.

Instrumentation Amplifier

An on site engineer designed an instrument to measure signals from purkinje cells in beating heart tissue. I built the instrument using wire wrap technology, and presented it complete with a labeled face plate with controls, all housed in a rack mount frame. For Dr. Joyner's heart research laboratory University of Iowa.
